WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE
|The Braves drafted DeVito out of Seton Hall. At the time, his fastball was around 90-94 mph, but his velocity increased after the draft, reaching as high as 97. He throws a splitter and slider, both of which could be good secondary pitches. His command needs to improve. The Pirates acquired DeVito in the trade for Richard Rodriguez.
DeVito split his time after the draft mostly between advanced rookie ball and low A. He was more challenged at the latter stop.
DeVito pitched only in fall instructional league during the pandemic season.
DeVito made five starts in high A, then went on the injured list with a sore elbow. Before going out, he was impressive, with a high K rate and improved control.
DeVito was still out when the Pirates acquired him. Presumably, they had medical information showing the elbow isn’t a serious problem.
